Tucson Troubadour Howe Gelb & Giant Giant Sand set their sights on the Shortwave studios. Howe describes how the band formed by the wrath of coincidence, performing 3 hour long improvisational sets, and the story behind Erosion Rock. Howe also talks about the inspiration behind “Tucson: A Country Rock Opera,” thinking about winding down on recording, and how the recent events in Arizona have affected him as a local. Alex talks about his progression from producer to singer, his first bands, and how the legend of Mexico City inspired his debut album. He also tells us about working in the woods with the band Delta Rae, his thoughts on today’s musical landscape, and how he started working with Ximena Sariñana. Plus, Ximena Sariñana joins Alex to play some live songs from his debut album, “A City On A Lake.”
