Paul Rust of LOVE on Netflix joins Devin & Amy this week to nominate the Alexander Payne 1999 film Election into The Canon! The movie stars Matthew Broderick as Jim McAllister, a popular high school social studies teacher in suburban Omaha, Nebraska, and Reese Witherspoon as Tracy Flick, around the time of the school’s student body election. When Tracy qualifies to run for class president, McAllister believes she does not deserve the title and tries his best to stop her from winning. Three times a week, Stephen Dubner and James Altucher ask and (attempt to) answer the ‘Question of the Day’. Topics have included “Does Marketing Pay Off?”, “Can Money Really Buy Happiness?”, and “Why Work a Nine-To-Six Job?”.
In January, the guys stepped out of the recording booth and onto the stage to hold a 90-minute live event at the Bell House in Brooklyn, NY. Listeners submitted questions for the event through social media, and special guest comedian/moderator Negin Farsad attempted to keep our hosts in line and on topic.
Also, fulfilling a dare from months earlier on the podcast, Stephen and James each made their first attempts at live stand-up comedy!

Ellen DeGeneres selfie stunt that was totally unscripted and Samsung definitely didn’t pay the Oscars $20 million in advance for. Just stop it already. Take a few years off.
